Grace Bible Church (GBC) embraces the multi-site church model which is made up of branches. The church now consists of branches which are spread across the Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Free State Limpopo, North West and Western Cape Provinces. We believe that this approach allows us the greatest leverage of God’s resources in fulfilling our vision.
But what is a multi-site church? It is one church that meets at multiple locations. Being one church, such a congregation has only one Senior Pastor, one spiritual leadership team and one management team though there are Pastors assigned to the branches.
Running a multi-site congregation is a different ball game. It means the leadership has a ‘big picture’ view, which is concerned for all the branch churches as opposed to wary of a ‘one campus’ view. The philosophy that underpins GBC’s approach to multi-site churches is ‘church at your doorstep’. The aim is to ensure that people have access to fellowship at a GBC branch closest to their homes and as such, distance should not restrict people from being part of GBC.
Though the Apostle Paul used the multi-site church model, he had oversight of different churches in different locations and research reveals that the modern church began to embrace the multi-site model after the turn of the 21st century. Paul relied on his epistles and an itinerant ministry approach for his multi-site model while today’s approach makes use of satellite and video technology.
